Story
Once upon a time, a lion lived in a large forest. The lion was very strong but also very greedy. It often hunted any animal it saw in the forest.
One evening, after resting during the afternoon, the lion went out looking for food. As it walked through the forest, it saw a small rabbit sleeping peacefully under a tree.
The lion became happy and thought,
“Today I won’t have to search much for food. This rabbit will be enough for my dinner.”
Quietly, the lion began moving toward the rabbit. But just then it noticed something else nearby — a big, fat deer grazing in the grass.
Seeing the deer, the lion changed its mind.
“Why should I eat this tiny rabbit when I can catch that big deer?” it thought.
Immediately the lion ran toward the deer. But the moment the deer saw the lion, it ran quickly into the deep forest. The lion chased it for a long time but could not catch it.
Tired and disappointed, the lion walked back to the tree where the rabbit had been sleeping. It hoped the rabbit would still be there.
But when the lion reached the tree, the rabbit was gone. While the lion was chasing the deer, the rabbit had woken up and escaped.
The lion sadly said,
“I left the rabbit that I could have easily eaten because I wanted something bigger. Now I have lost both.”
That night, the lion had to stay hungry.
Moral:
Greed can make us lose what we already have.
